Unlock NEVI Funds: Your Path to DC Fast Charging Starts Here!

Discover the Power of the NEVI Program!

The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program, part of the 2022 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), is fueling the future of transportation by accelerating the nationwide buildout of EV charging infrastructure. With a massive $7.5 billion investment, NEVI is designed to drive equitable EV adoption across the U.S., providing $5 billion for national projects and $2.5 billion for corridor and community charging grants.

As a key pillar in America’s plan to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, NEVI is shaping the future of sustainable mobility.

Understanding the NEVI funding requirements.

NEVI was designed to deliver convenient, reliable, affordable and equitable DC charging for EV drivers. This funding will cover up to 80% of project costs, if you meet the following qualifications:

  1. Be within 1 mile of established alternative fuel corridors (AFCs)

  2. Accommodate the power requirements for DC solutions

  3. Be able to charge four vehicles at 150 kW at the same time

  4. Cover remaining total project costs

There are no restrictions on the type of businesses that apply for the funds. Hotels, motels, restaurants, gas stations, business parks, shopping malls and so on are all eligible as long as they meet the four measures above.

What Do NEVI Funds Cover?

NEVI funding can significantly reduce the cost of installing EV charging stations by covering up to 80% of key expenses. This includes critical "make-ready" work like utility upgrades, electrical wiring, and construction. Additionally, the funds can offset a portion of the cost for EV charging hardware and management software, making it easier and more affordable to implement DC fast charging solutions at your location.

Which Businesses Should Apply for NEVI Funding?

NEVI funding is available to virtually any business, but those with large parking lots, ample lighting, and easy access to traveler amenities are especially well-positioned to benefit. EV drivers, like gas and diesel travelers, seek out convenience—making businesses that offer food services, restrooms, and other amenities ideal candidates.

Perfectly suited businesses include hotels, motels, restaurants, gas stations, convenience stores, shopping malls, RV parks, campgrounds, and more. To qualify, your property must be within 1 mile of an established Alternative Fuel Corridor, have the power capacity for DC fast charging, support four vehicles charging at 150 kW simultaneously, and cover the remaining project costs beyond NEVI funds.

This is a game-changing opportunity to attract EV drivers and boost your business!

Why Add EV Charging?

With EV adoption skyrocketing, now is the time to act. In 2022, sales of gas-powered cars declined, while electric vehicle sales surged past the critical 5% tipping point. The NEVI program offers an unparalleled opportunity to secure funding for DC fast charging stations—allowing you to expand without heavily impacting your bottom line.

By adding EV charging, your business can:

  • Attract new customers who are actively seeking charging locations

  • Strengthen relationships with existing customers by offering added convenience

  • Create a new revenue stream from charging services

  • Advance your sustainability goals and contribute to a greener future

  • Position your business as a green leader, boosting brand appeal

  • Gain a first-mover advantage in the EV charging space and build customer loyalty

Don’t miss out on this game-changing opportunity to future-proof your business and drive growth!

What Hardware Qualifies for NEVI Funding?

NEVI funding is tied to strict domestic assembly requirements designed to boost American jobs and technological leadership. Effective immediately, all federally supported EV charging equipment must meet these standards, with top brands like Kempower, ChargePoint, and Tritium already producing American-made DC fast chargers.

The Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Build America, Buy America rules are now in force, requiring that EV charger enclosures and housings made primarily of steel or iron must be fully manufactured in the U.S.—from the initial melting and pouring to the final coating process.

Starting July 1, 2024, EV charging equipment must have at least 55% domestic content to meet NEVI requirements, ensuring that the rapid expansion of this industry supports American manufacturing.

What Else Do You Need to Know?

State-Specific Requirements:
Each state is responsible for distributing its NEVI funds and may impose additional requirements on top of federal minimum standards. This means every state can have unique conditions that businesses need to meet, so it’s critical to understand your local regulations.

Funding Timing & Availability:
States receive their share of NEVI funds based on a complex formula that factors in highway infrastructure, miles of roadways, and more. The availability and timing of funds will vary from state to state, so staying informed about your state's funding window is crucial for securing financial support.

Additional Incentives:
Beyond NEVI funding, individual states may offer their own EV charging incentives. Additionally, the federal government is finalizing the 30C tax credit, which could cover up to 30% of the costs associated with installing EV charging stations—further reducing your financial burden.

Partner with National Car Charging:
Our team of experts is fully versed in the NEVI program and can guide you through every step. With access to the latest tools and knowledge of incentive programs, we’ll ensure your transition to EV charging is smooth, cost-effective, and hassle-free.
